Peer Tutor Sign Up

Thank you for your interest in peer tutoring! Please read and complete the application if you feel qualified to be a supportive and dedicated peer tutor. Subjects eligible for tutoring are; math, French, Spanish, Latin, the sciences and occasionally history and geography. *Applications are due at your earliest convenience

Description of the Peer Tutoring Program:

Volunteering as a peer tutor is an opportunity for you to assist other students to develop their subject-specific skills while you improve your leadership and communication skills. Please note that subject teachers will have final approval of your application. If they feel your skills are strong enough, you will receive training for our Peer Tutoring Program. You will then be paired with another student who is looking for extra help.

Meeting Time and Location:

You will arrange with your tutee a meeting time and location either in person or on Zoom. If it is in person, you will meet either before or after school at the following locations; before school (after 7:45am) and after school (until 5pm) in available classrooms, AWC, Learning Strategies Centre, library, Gr. 9/10 Hub, and middle school lounges.

Training:

You will receive mandatory tutor training or training manual before you begin tutoring. You will track your hours in a Google Doc which can count towards your Duke of Ed and CAS hours. Before you apply for this position, please carefully consider your other academic and co-curricular commitments, as tutees rely on consistent and dependable assistance.

Other expectations:

1. After you have been paired, email your peer tutee and agree upon a time to meet regularly and at which location. Check your email daily, gmail calendar invites, and/or exchange phone numbers. On occasion either you or your tutee will have to cancel a meeting and this is the best way to keep each other informed.

2. If you do have to cancel a meeting with your tutee for a good reason, please let your tutee know ahead of time and offer a new time/day to meet. Missing two sessions without notice or a good reason means that you no longer want to be part of the program.

3. Be punctual. Out of respect for your tutee, please make sure that you are at your meeting at the agreed upon time.

4. Adhere to the Branksome Hall Student Code of Conduct.

5. If you have any concerns (e.g. you have problems communicating or meeting with your tutee) or if you no longer wish to participate, please let your Club Heads know.
